Scoresby Family
Meet Tanner Scoresby! Tanner is the second of six kids and the oldest son of Devin and Missy Scoresby. Just shy of his 18th birthday, Tanner began experiencing shortness of breath. However, being the tough athlete he is, he continued to play and perform exceptionally well. On January 31st, as his symptoms weren’t improving, he decided to get checked out. A chest X-ray revealed a large mass in his chest. He was immediately advised to go to Primary Children’s Hospital to determine the next steps. Upon arriving at Primary Children’s, doctors drained approximately four liters of fluid from his lungs. Without realizing it, he had been playing basketball, working out, and excelling—all on just one lung! After removing the fluid, doctors started Tanner on steroids in hopes of shrinking the mass, which is located in a very delicate area near his trachea and heart. Sedating him too soon could have caused undue stress, putting dangerous pressure on his airway. Once the doctors determined it was safe for Tanner to undergo mild sedation, they performed a bone marrow biopsy. The results confirmed that Tanner has T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. He will begin chemotherapy at Primary Children’s and will later need to travel for continued treatment, which is expected to last approximately two years. But Tanner is ready to fight! To know Tanner and his family is to love them. Tanner is a hardworking, kind, selfless, and incredible son, brother, friend, and athlete. Though his next few years may look different than he had planned, and some of his goals will have to be put on hold, he will never lack the support and love he needs to face this challenge head-on. He has always been there for others in their times of need—now, we have the opportunity to be there for him!
